Meet Alexis Matthiesen-Johnson, MS

Hi, I’m Alexis! I am a Mental Performance and Strength & Conditioning Coach with experience working with high performing youth teams and NCAA Division I student athletes across a variety of sports. I hold a Master of Science in Kinesiology with a concentration in Sport & Exercise Psychology and am currently working towards Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) and Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) credentials. I am passionate about collaborative and holistic athlete development, building strengths and skills to overcome challenges, both physically and mentally. 

What is Mental Performance Coaching?

Mental performance coaching helps athletes develop the best versions of themselves both in and out of their sport. As a former collegiate athlete, I witnessed firsthand the need for this support. I watched talented athletes struggle to cope with injuries, burnout, and career transitions despite having access to elite coaching and physical training programs. I’ve seen athletes perform well in practice but struggle to reach their goals in competitions, and teams hindered by communication barriers and internal divisions.

These challenges affect teams and individuals regularly, and it’s my goal to help athletes prepare for and navigate these obstacles more effectively. Most high performing athletes work with sport psychologists or mental performance coaches, either individually or as part of their team support system. After investing in rigorous physical training, mental training often becomes the differentiator between good and great performance.

I believe every athlete deserves the opportunity to benefit from mental performance services so they can learn new skills, enhance their strengths, and overcome challenges. I focus on a collaborative and athlete-centered approach, addressing topics that are relevant and applicable to the specific demands of the sport and individual situations. Using evidence-based practices, I share theories and skills while facilitating productive conversations and collaborative learning experiences.

Mental Performance Services

1-on-1 Coaching: Individual mental performance coaching to focus on specific challenges, strengths, and skills. Allows an increased focus on relevant topics and personalized support.

Group Workshops: Custom workshops for groups or teams addressing a specific topic. Can include mental skills practice, team building activities, and group discussions.

Team Partnerships: Season-long team partnerships that include regular team workshops, customized sport-specific resources, coach meetings, and practice or competition attendance.
